NEW DELHI: A 58-year-old woman and her domestic maid were held at gunpoint and robbed inside their house in west Delhi’s Naraina on Friday. Before escaping with cash and jewellery worth lakhs, the robbers locked the two inside a room.

Her son, along with his wife, lives on the second floor. On Friday, all the male members of the family had left for their offices even as some renovation work was under way at the house.

“Around 11 am, a youngster came into the kitchen and asked for water. He suddenly pulled out a pistol and grabbed me by my neck. He pushed me on to the kitchen sink and threatened to shoot me if I made any noise,” Rani told cops.
“Another man entered the kitchen, and he was holding my domestic help Zubaida at gunpoint. They demanded that I give them whatever cash and jewellery that was kept in the house,” she added.
When she entered the bedroom, she found that the duo had already ransacked it. “I opened the bed box and gave him the gold jewellery and all the cash available at home. He also made me take off my gold bangles and rings that I was wearing. Subsequently, the two of them locked us in the room and escaped,” the victim said.

Rani immediately called her daughter-in-law, who was alone on the second floor of the house, and asked her to lock the door from inside. She alerted her husband and father-in-law, who rushed back to the house along with the cops. However, the robbers had fled by then.
Rani was taken to a nearby clinic where she was given first-aid for her injuries. A case was later registered under sections 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 394 (causing hurt during robbery) and 342 (illegal confinement) of the IPC along with sections of the Arms Act at the Naraina police station.
Involved of more than two persons is suspected in the incident. The CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to ascertain the exact sequence of events, and also to chalk out the escape route taken by the accused.
